Silverlight and SharePoint

Sharepoint User Group Members!

Phew!  There was so much great content during this first day of the conference, that I couldn’t wait to share some of this with you!  Here’s just a quick bullet list of some of the things shared and announced:

·         ASP.net Search Controls – The ASP.NET search controls, part of the Search Community Toolkit, provides ASP.NET developers with simple to use set of search control (Search input and results) which interface with the search web service on MOSS, Search Server 2008 and Search Server 2008 Express. The controls provide a simple and easy way to add search capability to your site very quickly and brand the results using XSLT.

·         Solution Accelerators – Well, not all of these are new, but a couple are and ALL of them are very powerful.  They’re designed to simplify the most challenging scenarios in Sharepoint, and they actually do a good job.  J
o   Asset Inventory – No idea how many team sites are popping up?  Use this tool to query your network and view a detailed analysis of all the Sharepoint sites in your environment!
o   Audit Policy and Configuration replicator – Got lots of sites to configure policies on? This tool will replicate your settings across multiple servers and farms!
o   Capacity Planner – Not sure how many servers to buy?  This tool will tell you EXACTLY how many based on your very specific use case scenarios!
There are several more very cool and helpful ones here:

·         Silverlight Blueprint – All I can say is WOW.  Silverlight Blueprint for MOSS will ROCK the internet, intranet and beyond.  Some really slick, cool looking demos were shown today and can be found here:  http://www.ssblueprints.net/sharepoint/
·         Web Stress Tools and new HA Support with WS 2008 – Very exciting new scenarios for Sharepoint 2007 with Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008.  New capabilities around web stress testing and monitoring, and High Availability scenarios like mirroring.

Well, I’m off to the Northwest dinner.  I’ll let you know what other great things are on the way after another full day tomorrow!
